There is a legal obligation to provide insurers with any information which is material to the risk they are accepting. Do you wish to provide any material information, disclose a material fact or provide any other information?

The policy says your home must be constructed with certain materials. See the definition of 'home' on page 4 of the policy wording

If your home is not constructed using brick or stone or not roofed with slate or tile then you may not be covered in the event of a claim

If your home is built mainly of these materials but there has been an extension or conversion built or part of your home uses different construction materials then please provide additional information in the material information box at the end of this page

In the policy wording family is defined on page 4 as your partner and children (including foster children) and any other person permanently living with you, but excluding tenants

This policy is designed for private domestic homes

It would not be suitable for property you rent, where you have tenants, is unoccupied or that is a holiday or second home

This would include any signs of possible damage even if you are not currently aware of the actual cause

It would also include subsidence, heave or landslip of the site on which your home stands even if at the present time no damage has occurred to the home

If your property has been underpinned then that is a strong indication that it has suffered landslip, subsidence or heave at some time in the past and you should mention it

Please note that family includes your partner and children (including foster children) and any other person permanently living with you, but excluding tenants Back To Top
The calculation of the premium is partly based on your previous claims history

If you made a claim and nothing was paid it still counts as a claim

Family includes your partner and children (including foster children) and any other person permanently living with you, but excluding tenants

If you are taking out additional sections of cover which you would have claimed on over the past five years had you had cover then, please note that down under material information

For instance you never took out personal possessions cover in the past so you have not made a claim but had you done so you would have had three large claims over the past five years

That would be material information to mention in the box provided below

Each separate event is usually treated as a seperate claim

If in doubt ask your previous insurer

The policy defines unoccupied on page 5 of the policy wording as meaning when your home has not been lived in by you or any other person with your permission for more than 60 days in a row

Lived in means slept in frequently

The home is defined on page 4 of the policy wording as your private dwelling

The policy is only designed to cover private dewellings and the premium calculated accordingly

Some people do take clerical work home however if you think you are running a business from your home or part of your home is converted for business even if it is limited to clerical work then please mention this in the material information box below

Material information would include every circumstance which would influence the judgement of the insurance company in fixing a premium, setting terms or conditions or determining whether or not to accept a risk

If you are in doubt over whether something is material then you should mention it

You can also use this box to provide any other information which may add to the answers given above

If you do not advise material information at this stage but that information comes to light when a claim is made then the policy may be void and your claim not paid
